European Parliament
The Parliament of the European Union has representatives of all the member states. The present parliament has 732 members from all 25 EU countries. The Parliament shares with the Council authority over the EU budget and legislation. In addition, the Parliament exercises democratic supervision over the other EU institutions, and in particular the Commission.
The Committee on Development of the Parliament is empowered to promote, implement and monitor the development cooperation policy of the European Union, notably: development aid to and political dialogue and cooperation agreements with developing countries and the promotion of democratic values, good governance and human rights in developing countries.
The Parliament is also in charge of the matters related to ACP-EU Partnership Agreement and relations with relevant bodies. The Committee takes care of the relations with the parliaments of developing countries and participates in election observation missions.
