10:45 KIOS: Seminar Report Launch – Perspectives on the Role of Human Rights in the Era of Post-2015 Agenda

Many countries in East and Horn of Africa have seen large-scale human rights abuses from impunity to dictatorship and civil wars, making the work of human rights defenders particularly demanding.

What are the current challenges and future prospects for human rights defenders in the region? How is the environment towards human rights and civil society affecting the overall development of the region?

Hassan Shire, a pan-African human rights defender, director of the East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project (EHAHRDP), will share light on the situation on human rights and their role for development in East and Horn of Africa.

At the end of the event, KIOS will launch a report drafted from the KIOS seminar held in September 2014. The report presents perspectives on the role of human rights and civil society in the era of Post-2015 Agenda.
