You are warmly welcome to meet and discuss with a Malagasy conservationist Youssouf, who will be presenting the work of his NGO Mitsinjo that works actively in the Eastern rainforest area of Madagascar.

Youssouf is the vice president of Association Mitsinjo, as well as the tree nursery responsible in Project Manondroala, a forest restoration and mapping project implemented in cooperation with the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation. Youssouf has come to Finland for a month through Kepa's ETVO Southern Volunteer Program.

Mitsinjo is a small Malagasy non-governmental organization that aims at combining nature conservation and sustainable local livelihoods. The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation supports Mitsinjo in restoring some of the most valuable rainforest areas in the country, full of endangered and endemic species of flora and fauna. Mitsinjo's work spans from environmental education and health to wildlife research and eco-tourism.

Madagascar one of the global biodiversity hotspots and still recovering from a political crisis is a challenging environment for nature conservation and community development, as majority of people still live in extreme poverty and is directly dependent on arable land and forest resources.

The discussion will be held in English.
