Field Coordinator
CMI is seeking a Field Coordinator.
CMI (Crisis Management Initiative) is an independent, non-governmental organisation whose mission is to resolve conflicts and build sustainable peace. CMI contributes to conflict resolution through mediation, mediation support, dialogue and confidence-building processes. The organisation is incorporated in Finland, Belgium and South Sudan and has field offices in the Middle East, South East Asia, Africa and the Black Sea Region.
CMI supports the peaceful transformation of South Sudan into a stable, independent country. By facilitating a participatory dialogue process and providing a platform for debate, CMI seeks to build confidence between government authorities and youth influencers representing different sections of the South Sudanese society.
Working in close cooperation with local partners, CMI aims to deepen the youth influencers’ participation and ownership over shaping the future of South Sudan. In addition CMI is collaborating with South Sudan Peace Commission and looking into relevant new project opportunities to support the peaceful transformation of South Sudan into a stable country.
CMI is looking to hire a Field Coordinator (Consultancy contract) to work in close co-operation with the South Sudan project team in Juba.
The Field Coordinator handles the daily CMI office management in South Sudan and reports to CMI Project Manager based in Nairobi. S/he will be part of an international and active team of experts from different fields.
The position includes a wide range of tasks, for example:
- Manage the CMI office in Juba including finances, logistics, daily operations such as staff management, security etc.
- Represent CMI in South Sudan i.e. in relevant coordination meetings
- Implement project activities together with the CMI team and partners
- Maintain and develop partnerships with South Sudanese actors
- Lead CMI fundraising in South Sudan
- Contribute to the CMI project portfolio development in South Sudan and the region
- Contribute and support the CMI project team in on-going projects by i.e. event organisation, co-facilitation, logistics etc.
- Contribute to the work of a multi-cultural team of CMI and its partners in various ways
The working location of the Field Coordinator is in CMI’s South Sudan office in Juba with some travel within South Sudan. CMI is recruiting the Field Coordinator as a locally hired consultant. The contract includes a housing allowance and work-related expenses. The starting date of the contract is preferably in December 2012 and the position is for a fixed period until 31 December 2013, with a possible extension.

We wish that you
- have an university degree in public administration, international relations, conflict or development studies, political science and/or other relevant field
- have a minimum of 5 years of proven relevant work experience from international organisations and/or NGOs in development and/or post conflict countries, preferably from South Sudan and the East/Horn of Africa region or Africa generally
- have experience in office management, finances and donor relations in the East/Horn of Africa region or Africa generally
- have a good knowledge of the South Sudanese political context as well as of the conflict dynamics in South Sudan and in the East/Horn of Africa region
- have excellent analytical and report writing skills and a willingness to work in a multi-cultural team with a flexible attitude
- have fluency in English, knowledge of other languages in South Sudan, especially Juba Arabic, is an asset
