European Parliament Resolution on Disability and Development

European Parliament requires among other things that disability issues must be mainstreamed at all the levels from policy development to implementation and evaluation.

In its resolution (19 January), the Parliament requires among other things that disability issues must be mainstreamed at all the levels from policy development to implementation and evaluation. Disability issues have to be taken into account in follow-up actions to the EU's policy development statement, and the EU's action plan for Africa. Representative groups of disabled persons should also be further consulted in policy development. The resolution was adopted in the Parliament plenary session.

According to the estimations of the World Bank, 45 % of the world’s disabled lives in extreme poverty. Disability and poverty are clearly connected but still disability is rarely taken into consideration in development programmes.
